Capt. Benincasa named interim replacement for chief of police
Captain Gary Benincasa will serve as Interim Chief of Police for the Lodi Police Department upon the retirement of Chief Main later this month.
Lodi City Manager Blair King notified department employees of his selection Thursday night.
"Gary has excellent leadership skills and will assist the Police Department in providing Lodi's usual high-quality police services," King said.
Captain Benincasa commands the department's operations division. He is a 27-year department veteran and a graduate of the University of San Francisco. King, who is leaving the City of Lodi on May 7, said he would leave the hiring of a permanent chief to the next city manager.
Benincasa will assume the chief's duties following Main's final day on April 23.
