The West Nile Task Force issued a media release last night due to a positive
result on a “sentinel chicken” blood test. These “red-leghorn” chickens are
placed in six (6) locations throughout this county. The positive test came from
Roberts Island area, in the southwest area of Stockton.
What does this mean? All 14 other positive tests came from dead birds turned in
by citizens. Thos birds could have flown in from other counties. However, a
sentinel chicken isn’t transient and means WNV is here! Still no positive human
or equine cases . . . Yet.
We are now entering the 2-month peak period.
